Become an Open Water Scuba Diver in 4 days!

Learning to dive with Lanzarote Dive Centre will be fun and exciting and just the start of your scuba diving journey. Some of you will have already done a try dive or the SSI Basic Diver course, others will just know that scuba diving and the full Open Water course is for them. It is the perfect course for anyone, couples, friends and famillies who are on holiday for a week.

You'll be learning to dive in the Atlantic Ocean, initially in a protected bay that is full of marine life! You will learn the theory, knowledge and core skills to keep you and your buddy safe when diving to a maximum depth of 18m.

Skills include kit set up, buddy checks, hand signals, entry and exit techniques, safe ascents and decents, safety stops, finning techniques and basic buoyancy. You'll also learn to deal with some common problems such as ear equalisation and some basic rescue skills too including cramp and out of air scenarios such as alternate air sharing with your buddy.

This course is just the beginning of your journey into the world of scuba diving. It can take you around the world to see and experience some of the most amazing marine life, topography, wrecks and ecosystems imaginable. Whats starts as a bit of holiday fun can become a lifetime of exciting and exhilerating experiences.

Course Duration: 4 - 5 days

Course Theory: SSI digital learning kit that can be completed before arrive - no holiday classroom time!

Minimum Number of Open Water Dives required for certification: 4

Maximum Certification Depth: 18m with a dive buddy in conditions similar to those in which you trained

Course includes:

Course Prerequisites

Minimum age	- 18 years old or 10-17 years old with parental consent. - Children aged 10-14 years old, must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult. - There is no maximum age for learning to dive.
Water Fitness	- Must be comfortable in the water - Must be able to swim 200m
Medical Fitness	- Must be medically fit to dive - Must complete the Diver Medical Participant Form see FAQs for more info & to download the form

FAQ's SSI Open Water Diver Course

Do I need to be fit and healthy?
You don't need to be super fit however you will be physically exerting yourself so you do need to be generally physically fit and in good health. We suggest that you are capable of walking 1.6km or 1 mile in 12 minutes.

There are conditions that will preclude you from participating, such as a history of respiratory conditions and heart disease or having a cold or congestion.

Can I combine the SSI Open Water Diver Course with any other courses? Can I combine the Open Water Diver Course with other courses?
Yes, the SSI Enriched Air Nitrox course so you enjoy the benefits of Nitrox from day 1; the SSI Perfect Buoyancy course is a great way to continue to improve your diving; and the SSI Advanced Adventurer course will give you a taste of 5 different specialty courses.

How much extra time will I need?
The SSI Enriched Air Nitrox course needs no extra time; the SSI Perfect Buoyancy course is 1 day; and the SSI Advanced Adventurer course is 2-3 days.

Can I get on a presurised plane and fly straight after diving? Can I get on a pressurised plane and fly straight after diving?
No, as you are going from one pressurized environment to another (underwater to a plane cabin) you must leave minimum 24 hours between your last dive and your flight.

Is there a time limit on the SSI Open Water Diver course?
No, once you are a certified Open Water Diver there is no time limit on your certification. If you are a holiday diver and it has been 6 months or more since your last dive, you will need a refresher dive first.
